Hi, I have been researching the father -in-laws side of the family and they have told me the rough story of their family history ( from husband Nan - 96yo). The story goes that James Bain 1813c married a Margaret McLaren and I do believe by what I can understand had son called James ??? Bain in 1831c and a daughter Margaret McLaren Bain born 1834 in Lochern Scotland, I wonder did they have any other children in Scotland before they emigrated to Australia in approx 1836 / 1837. Any help on where to start looking for confirmation of this story would be greatly appreciated, as I am not sure where to even begin when it comes to Scotland. Thanks Melisa Bain - Australia

Hi Mel, I cant see a James Bain marrying a Margaret Mclaren on the IGI. There are 2 John Bain's who married Mclaren's between 1820-1836 but you would need to buy credits on scotlands people to view the results. This is the nearest marriage on the IGI... Hi Everyone, Thank-you so much for all your help, I have spoken to Nan again today and she did remember what I was talking about and by what she said, I think you are right Georgina !! Today she told me that Margaret Mclaren married John Bain in a Budist place LOL so I am guessing she meant Balquidda. She also said that Margaret McLaren's fathers name was James and mother Agnes. Many Many years ago there was some documents that had been done but unfortunatly they are now long gone. Hopefully I will make new ones. Thanks for all your help Kindest Regards Melisa

Mel how sure are you of when the family went to Australia? On World Trees someone has your family but there info is a bit sketchy, they have John Bain marrying Margaret Mclaren in Balquhidder and then they list their children....
