Hi Jean, if you get the reference numbers from the census entry, you may be able to give the local library a ring, and they may have a census index to the area you're looking for. They might be able to look it up for you on an old map, and tell you the sort of area, or tell you which street it is now then you can look it up at Multimap. Hope this helps you in some way Best wishes |

Do you have the census reference? If you do let us know it so somebody can look up which registration district your family were in and take a look at the description. This info should help you to narrow down the location and you can take a look at it on Multimap. [This is what is says on Ancestry: Some parishes may have only one district, others will have many. By clicking the link next to the enumeration district number you can see the handwritten description of the area that comprises the district.] Christina |

The location is actually in Iver..........enumeration district 1a. The description of the district is: The Whole of the Hamlet of Hedgerley Dean. There are only 4 census pages for the district, so it wasn't too big...........then! Hope this helps........... Reg |

I have found Hedgerley GREEN but no Dean on an old maps site [address - remove ()s www.old-maps(.)co(.)uk/oldmaps/index_external.jsp?easting=503500&northing=181500 ], you may have to select Buckinghamshire and Hedgerley Green, then you can zoom in. I can't see a PO and pub in Hedgerley Green but can in Hedgerley itself. It might be worth taking a look because the road doesn't appear to be very long. Christina |

I very much doubt that the original houses would still be there. You could try seeing what the public house was called - its sometimes written on a census even if not transcribed - and then see if the pub still exists. Bear in mind that the post office may well have moved. nell |

christina, thanks for that info, did as you suggested and found the post office, have saved addy on to my bookmark. nell, I have had another look on the image and it dosnt say what the public house was called, but as the post office was next door to the pub hopefully I can get some more information when I get there. thanks for everyones help today. jean x |
