Im trying to find Frederick Delacour born 1811 Maidstone - well thats what it says half the time. The kids get different places of birth but they vaguely tie in - thing is guys, is this lot in the 1851 the same as the lot in 1861: OR have I just got the wrong lot - only Fred I could find that looked like Delacour on the census. Is the Irish wife marrying Fred as a widow and bringing a couple of Irish kids with her. This looks like his death : Name: Frederick Delacour Birth Date: abt 1816 Year of Registration: 1880 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar Greenwich The 1861 are def the right bunch. 1851:Fred is shown as a jeweller. Elizabeth Delacome abt 1838 Armagh Parish of Loughgibba, Ireland Daughter Penn Buckinghamshire Fredrick Delacome abt 1813 Whitechapel, London, England Head Penn Buckinghamshire Fredrick Delacome abt 1849 Horsham, Sussex, England Son Penn Buckinghamshire Jane Delacome abt 1815 Armagh Parish of Loughgibba, Ireland Wife Penn Buckinghamshire Mary Ann Delacome abt 1847 Wycombe High, Buckinghamshire, England Daughter Penn Buckinghamshire Rebecca Delacome abt 1844 Armagh Parish of Loughgibba, Ireland Daughter Penn Buckinghamshire 1861: Father Fred is a confectioner (widower). Living Griffin Street, Deptford Fredk Delacour abt 1811 Maidstone, Kent, England Head Deptford St Paul Kent Fredk Delacour abt 1849 Horsham, Sussex, England Son Deptford St Paul Kent Jas Delacour abt 1851 Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England Son Deptford St Paul Kent Mary Ann Delacour abt 1847 Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England Daughter Deptford St Paul Kent

You have probably already go this for Fred junior 1871 Name: Fredk Delacour Age: 6 Estimated birth year: abt 1865 Relation: Son Where born: Deptford, Kent, England Civil Parish: St Paul Deptford County/Island: London Country: England Source information: RG10/744 Registration district: Greenwich Sub-registration district: St Paul Deptford ED, institution, or vessel: 18 Page: 31 Household schedule number: 184 GSU Number: 824720 **Fredk Delacour abt 1849 Horsham, Surrey, England Head Mary Delacour abt 1850 Deptford, Kent, England Wife Mary Ann Delacour abt 1869 Deptford, Kent, England Daughter Maureen

1851 Penn Buckinghamshire Fredrick Delacome abt 1813 Whitechapel, Head jeweller Jane abt 1815 Armagh Loughgibba, Ireland Wife Elizabeth abt 1838 Armagh Loughgibba, Ireland Daughter Rebecca abt 1844 Armagh, Loughgibba, Ireland Daughter Mary Ann abt 1847 Wycombe High, Daughter Fredrick abt 1849 Horsham, Sussex, Son 1861: Griffin Street, Deptford Fredk Delacour abt 1811 Maidstone, Kent, Head confectioner (widower) Fredk Delacour abt 1849 Horsham, Sussex, Son Jas Delacour abt 1851 Wycombe, Buckinghamshire,Son Mary Ann Delacour abt 1847 Wycombe, Bucks, Daughter OK, if Jane from 1851 is dead, Fred would be a widower, so that ties in. Mary Ann' s age and birthplace are consistent, as is Fred junior. Jas was presumably born after 1851. I suggest you try finding deaths for Jane and either deaths, marriages or elsewhere on census for Elizabeth and Rebecca.

Heather, have you tried De la Cour?

Hi guys, sneaked up whilst hubby gone to Jewsons. Many thanks for your efforts - so general consensus is that he just couldnt stop changing his place of birth and its the right man - yes? Certainly a change of job from jeweller to confectioner, isnt it - which worried me a bit. And how do you confuse your place of birth from Maidstone to Whitechapel?? I wonder if something is a bit iffy about him, hence change of job and place of birth? May check that one out. (Like did he go bankrupt or disappear with some of the jewellery in his pocket one day?) Fred jnr is the one I am tracking, his son George married my Great Aunt Wag Horstead (Charlotte) and I was going through some of dads things (as some of you know I lost him in October) and I found a letter to him from their son, George Delacour - who was my mums cousin. It had been written just after my mum had died in 1987 and it mentions speaking to 'Minnie and Nellie' about it. I have tracked them down and also he kindly tells dad about some pics he enclosed - which dad gave me long ago of mums family - and even tells dad who took the pics. I just felt I owed it to him to check out his connection to mum through her aunt as I know he and mum were very close.

Heather I have ancestors in my tree and husband has ancestors in his tree who change their place of birth on censuses. Ditto their ages, way they spell their names etc. It doesn't mean they lied or were mad. It's a bit like Chinese whispers - person giving information doesn't necessarily KNOW the information, person recording it writes it wrongly, person reading it does the same as he puts it on the enumerator's sheets and then a transcriber misreads the writing. Sometimes people did lie to mislead, but often they were confused or not bothered. We don't at this point know who said what originally. Besides, if this chaps a liar or a madman, chances are that you must be as its probably genetic!!!!!!!!! nell

Nell, not my direct line - so it doesnt bother me! And I really only dramatised title to get attention as hubby was dragging me from seat with a paint brush being thrust at me! I have lots who change places and dates and of course name variations but to move your place of birth from the leafy country town of Maidstone in Kent 50/60 miles to the East End - now thats not a usual mistake. In the second census no wife, so just him and the kids. The kids couldnt make up a change that wild, theyd never even been in either places, so I am assuming he gave the info.

Paul, thanks for suggestion, I did try De La Cour, hoping to throw up a connection, but not so far. Oh and thanks Nell for the Rebecca who must be a child from the wifes first marriage. And thanks all for confirming same family. Living on borrowed time here, hubby due back any second with more work for me.
