That's speedy Karen. I am just going to send off for a certificate to the GRO I am hoping they are back to normal and it will be a bit quicker than the 5/6 weeks I waited in February, Good Hunting Linda |

Hold on Penny, this one was from a local records office not the GRO! |

Sorry for butting into your thread.. I applied for certs from GRO. Are you now saying I could have gone round the corner and got them from my local office? Or would they be elsewhere as it is only a small office? |

Tracy, you can order them from the local office to where the birth, marriage or death was registered, not necessarily your local one, but how long local offices take varies, and not all of them 'do' family history certificates. Kate. |

Would I only find that out by going in person and asking? Most of the certificates I want are registered in Whitby. The Office is a 5 min walk away. |

As Kate says, local offices are often much quicker but I was disappointed that I got a modern handwritten copy when I had one from them. I know the copies we get from GRO arent our ancestors signatures and stuff, but it does give you a feel of the age/time. Even the blots of ink add a bit of interest! And when I have tried to get certs from London offices, they usually just tell you to go to the GRO. Tracey, give them a ring if its that close and the events were registered locally. |

Just found the website for The local office and it gives me the information I need.. Oh how frustrating. I could have had my Certs by now. Off to sulk while waiting for the post! |
