I've made a bit of a mess, when adding the parents of an anc estor i.e. John Dodd, in error It turned out I had entered his mother`s name instead of his wife, I have been trying different ways to delete this but cannot do so, I tried using reset, and also delete, but being told that I cannot delete her, so what can I do now to correct this ? |

Can you edit it on the old tree programme? Find the person using 'Immediate Family' on the left. Heather |

It won't delete if she is related to more than one person i.e.has children. The only way I have found to get round this is to delete children etc untill you just have her related to her husband ( or not in this case ) then delete and start to add the correct wife and children again. Long way round I know, but this is the way I do it. The font is huge do not know why ! Mags |

Thanks Heather & Mags, 1.I do not have this ancestor on the old programme, so cannot use that method, 2. I'll try this suggestion and see what happens, so far only one child entered, hopeully will not take too long to delete them I`ll let you know if it works. |

Hi The problem is that you can't delete a parent if they have children, you have to delete the children, put the correct parents in,then re-input the children. The problem is if the children you have to delete have children, and if those children have children then.........you can guess the rest. You could always contact GR support and ask,i have always found them to be pretty good with problems, but others may disagree. The solution is to use another tree programme such as Family Tree Maker (FTM). It allows you to correct errors much more easily and if you have cousins who marry or a woman who marries two brothers at some point you can merge the names to show the correct relationships. You can't do that via GR,you finish up with two entries for each person. FTM is available on-line for around £20 if you shop around. It is worth looking at the thread 'FTM cor this is handy' Glen |

Have tried again, but cannot remove, excuse me while I swear *^*^*^ that`s better! what I have done is the following, ancestor John Dodd marr. Mary Clewes, I now entered his parents, William Dodd father & mother Ann Hines, then somehow I found that Ann Hines the mother, was showing up as John`s wife, but every time I try to delete her, I get a notice saying 'cannot delete relation who is connected to multiple relations' now this means I would have to delete all the children of John Dodd, then his grandchildren and so on and so on, it would be a massive task, how do I get around that one!, all I did was enter one person who came out in the wrong place. Is there some other way I can get around this to remove the parents entirely perhaps? would that work I wonder |

hanks Turnip, have just read your suggestion, I'll have another stab at it, but if I can't maage will try as you suggest and contact GR, I just could not face deleting so many descendants of Ann Hines it would be a massive undertaking I think! |

Hi Maud You have found the problem with having to delete the children of the children of the children, until you reach the 'bottom' of the tree. As you say a massive task, and no short cut that i know off. Send GR a quick question and wait for the answer is the best suggestion i can make. Glen |
