ive just got a birth cert for my gg grandmothers brother. it states that his dad was thomas long (b1837) and mum was esther slater (b1844, woolhampton). ive looked on the 1851 census but no sign of her. could the surname have been mistranscribed? if so how would you know? Liz |

The problem I found in my family was different spellings for the name Esther/Hester/Easter. Heather |

Thats the only one I could find aswell. Mistakes can and are made on certificates, particularly if a person isnt doing the actual writing themselves. I think you need to look for their marriage cert. Where was the child born and when? Just had a look and the eldest kiddie was also born Woolhampton in 1860? I reckon that girl is yours - but have a look for the marriage. |
