My birth father is called Barend Van Nie and he was born in Holland, 1951. I found out about him when I was 16, he wrote me a couple letters, but I was too shocked and too young to take it in. Over the years (I am 37 now) I have written to him, but my letters come back, unknown at the address. When I try search sites for the Netherlands they are all in dutch so i'm not getting very far! Does anyone know how else i could try to find him? Thank you if you can help. Dawn. |

Why don't you make use of the 'trying to find' section - you never know, it might work. Is Van Nie a fairly common name? I don't know how easy it would be to go through Dutch telephone directories. |

Dawn I've found a B van DIE in the Dutch telephone directory. Send me a private message, and i'll give you the details. Obviously don't know whether it's him, but worth a try! |

Do you know which part of Holland or in which town he was born? That makes it a lot easier to look up since Dutch records are stored regionally. Also what was his last address [or the town if you don't want to give the actual address] I am an ex-pat living in Holland and I can speak Dutch so maybe I can help. Krissie |

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. His name is Barend Van Nie, apparently its a very popular name, unfortunately for me! His last address was in Spijkenisse (may not be spelt right - sorry). I'm really grateful for all your help x |

Dawn, Do you think it might be wise to take up the private message (PM) offers that are given when you're dealing with something potentially sensitive like this on a public forum? I've never been in your situation, so I certainly can't claim authority, but it's possible that not everyone who looks in to the thread will be well-intentioned or considerate. Perhaps you have already thought of that. Christine |

Dawn I think Christine is right. That is why I suggested you send me a PM. Haven't heard from you though. |
