I asked for info earlier and think I found the birth. Applied for Birth certificate but still waiting for it. My Mother was born in 1944 At the time my grandmother was married to a Hodgson who was a POW. He was pressumed dead and my grandmother got on with another bloke. My mother was one of the other mans children (who my grandmother later married) The only birth found that could be my mothers was registered as my grandmothers second name (as in middle name) instead of surname. Has anyone any theories on this? |

Until you get the cert you can't be sure this is the right one, and until you see what's on it you can't know if this is an index mistake or whether your grandmother wanted to be known as someone else. nell |

I know i'm just impatient and wondered if anyone else had come across this situation, all searches under both my granmothers husbands names and my grandmothers maiden name came up with nothing. This is the only field that came up with a result. Tracy |

Perhaps she just didn't want her husband's name on the certificate if she knew he wasn't the father. As she was still married to her first husband, he would automatically be presumed to be the father, so to avoid this, she more than likely didn't give her married name. To be sure you'll have to wait until you get the certificate. Kath. x |

It was actually someone off here who found it! But like other people have said till i get the certificate i won't know for sure. But as nothing under my 2 grandmothers husbands names and my grandmothers maiden name i'm sure.. Wonder if i should look Bridgewaters up on cencus.. Bet there is none in Whitby that will convince me more. Thanks |
