can anyone tell me why on the 1841 census three lots of my family have children aged 9 10, 4 8 9 , and 7 6 all seemingly living without parents ? are they just put down as names because there are no addresses just a whole list of names in Beeston Cheshire. Thanks Chris. |

Have you checked where they are - is it a school, workhouse or some other institution? Have you checked the previous page to see if parents or adults are listed there? nell |

Not sure where you are viewing the census, but the parents may be on the bottom of the previous page... it's worth a look. Lin x |

I've found this with some of mine also. One possible explanation is that they were visiting or staying with someone else. Sue. |

Thanks for your sugestions will try them all, if I typed in just a last name though wouldn't it show the parents? I have tried that and no other Windsors Heathcotes or Challinors showed up. |

Chris Sometimes what you see in the index isn't what is on the page. I've sometimes found a person in the index and clicked on other household members and found they weren't in the same household when I checked the original image. nell |

The census shows Edward and Mary are with Thomas Woodfin a wheelwright, aged 35 and Martha Woodfin, aged 30. Is it perhaps possible that Martha was their mother and Thomas her 2nd (or even her 1st) husband? There are two other children in the household, Harriot Woodfin 2 and Thomas Woodfin 9 months. nell |

Hi Helen I think you atre dead right about the 2nd husband as on the parish records Edward Windsor has died aged 29 so Martha must have married again and had a second family. Thanks for that hadn't clicked till you said that. Chris. |
