Hi, There is more than one marriage on each page so that is why you will get the same reference numbers. If you cannot find out from census you have to buy the cert to be sure. Gwynne

Mary was born 1866 in Gateshead, County Durham. Yes I am trying to find out if she married John Hutchinson or Edward Kelly, and why they all have the same marriage reference??

You could order the marriage cert and see, have you found Mary in the 1871 census, if there are only those 3 names in the references it means the indexes haven't been fully transcribed yet and therefore a spouse is missing from this page. Nicky

As more than one marriage is recorded on each page of the register you have to determine which groom married which bride. The easiest way to do this would be to order Mary's marriage cert.

There is usually more that one couple on each page you look up and the only way of working out who married who (apart from ordering the certificate) is to try to find them in a census. Do you have the year and place of birth of Mary ? Sorry just seen it in your question !!! (told you it was too early in the morning)

I have a marriage of a Mary Diston born 1866 Gateshead, County Durham Parents Thomas & Jane both Gateshead, County Durham Mary marriage ref: 10a 1034 - June 1884 in Gateshead John Hutchinson marriage ref: 10a 1034 also Edward Kelly marriage ref: 10a 1034 how can this be so and how do I find out who she actually married??????
