I have a Bc of a child born in 1948 but registered by his father 1967. Have looked at the birth indexes and there are two entries for him, mothers maiden name same for both, although one is written at the bottom of the page. Can anyone tell me why this would happen? Many thanks Misty :) |

Perhaps they lost his birth cert, and weren't sure they had or not, so did it again - either for a marriage or passport. |

Sorry to confuse you Ron. I have a birth cert which says he was born in 1948, in the informant column it has his fathers name then the words 'by declaration, day month 1967'. In the when registered column it says ' day month 1967 on the authority of the Registrar General' Hope thats clearer :) Any ideas? Thanks |

Perhaps the parents weren't married when he was born but they both registered so he had his father's surname. I was registered in 1977 and 1994 just to confuse everyone! I have a birth entry from 1926 where both parents registered the birth but they were not married. Have you checked to see if the 1948 entry also appears in the index under his mother's maiden name? |

Thanks Pippa, you were right, birth ref also under mothers maiden name and found parents marriage ref in the following year. :) Why didn't I think of that? lol Tracy thanks for that idea, he would have been 19 so poss needed cert in Dads name to get passport or married, will look for that tomorrow. Thanks to all for helping Misty :) |
