Thanks everyone for your advice, I have been told that someone posted a message on the Records Office Board offering help for Broadstairs etc records to be looked up so I've added to her thread Gig |

This is the FreeBMD version of that Kent BMD entry, but that quarter must not be complete yet so again, you could only check if he married Mary if you knew her maiden name: Marriages Dec 1839 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COCK Edward I. of Thanet 5 602 MAY William I. of Thanet 5 602 READER Susannah I of Thanet 5 602 STEVENSON William I. Of Thanet 5 602 Kate. |

Well, Kent Online Parish Clerks at http://www.kent-opc.org.uk/ seems to have lots for Margate, but I can't see Broadstairs on there unless it comes under some other parish? Anyway, if I were you I would have a look at it. As for Kent BMD, there is an Edward Cock entry for 1839 as follows: Name: COCK, Edward, , Year of Marriage: 1839 Entry Number: 72 Register: T/34/1 Location: THANET AND DOVER but now I remember that you can only check on there to see if he married a Mary if you already know her maiden name! Anyway, the website address for Kent BMD is http://extranet3.kent.gov.uk/sp/rois/home.html (I only searched the marriages up to 1839.) Kate. |

Can you tell us if they were married by 1841 and where they were living? I've looked at BMD and found some men called Edward Cock married to Marys but not sure if any of them are yours. Two marriages were in Devon (Totnes and East Stonehouse), on in Horsham and one in West Ashford (but that last one was in 1846). Sue |

Right, well, unfortunately Debbie's advice about death certs only applies to Scotland, but certainly one of the children's birth certificates would give you Mary's maiden name (if any of the children was born after 1837). Or there is Kent BMD... I will have a little look on there and back soon.... Kate. |

Unfortunately FamilySearch is not much use for Kent. Oh bother, I can't remember what else it says on your thread now (got interrupted) so I will post this and add another reply in a minute if there is anything else that I can think of... Kate. |

Re: Edward Cock b: Margate 1816c & wife Mary b: Broadstairs 1815c.(Mary's birthname unknown) I can't seem to track any marriage details so can't order the certificate. I can't seem to get any further back with these relies. Have tried Family Search site. Apart from going some distance to look up birth records of the next generation back, can any one give me any suggestions on how? I have all the details of Edward's family from 1841 -1901, obviously none of Mary (without her birthname) but want to go back just one more generation. Any advice much appreciated |
