I have a birth for Sarah Tracy Huband 1819 Stonehouse, Devon. I've checked the BMD for her marriage and found a possible four husbands (plus a fifth, but he was in italics and there was only four brides). That was 1842. I've then checked census for 1851 and 1861 for a Sarah with each of the possible surnames, but found nothing. Am I missing something else I should be doing? Thanks.

well, sending for the cert would add some certainty. what makes you think this one is yours? Freebmd isnt complete so it may not even be her marriage. You should actually be going backwards from what you know so you would in theory be looking at her childrens birth certs or their marriage certs. What do you have for absolute fact?

Heather, all I have for an absolute fact is: Sarah Tracy Huband baptised 1 July 1819. Father William. Mother Agnes. Abode Stonehouse. Father occupation Serjeant Royal Marines. I know that is the correct family. I can't find a death for her although I have a few for her brothers, so presume she made it to adulthood. I've found the rest of her family.

I would send for cert of the first one if it is in the right area. I dont know how common the name of the husband may have been but if she had a second marriage then she should have remarried as a widow/divorcee in the name of her first husband. If you are looking at FreeBMD for your info note that a lot of information is missing up to 1860s. check out the database statistics.

Ozibird, I was looking only at Devon. Jess put the Derbyshire list up. Would you mind telling me where you found those names. It always amazes me how people can get them so quickly. Is there a website you are using? Can I take it by your name, you are also in Australia.

Anyway, I must go out now, but if you can't find a Sarah married to any of those men on the 1851, perhaps you can work out who some of the other women on the list married to narrow it down (again looking at 1851) and also try looking for a death for Sarah under any of the possible husbands' surnames.
