Louise, Yes, I have Francis on every census he was around for. He lived with his parents until he got married. Then with his wife and kids until 1901. I'll have to wait a few years to see if he makes the 1911. He doesn't appear to have travelled far. I'll have a look at those entries for Elizabeth though. Thanks for the look. Was Julia there? If not I wonder where she went? Toni |

Sorry I disappeared. Hubby cooked dinner. Julia married Francis Simpson and I have census entries for them from 1881 through to 1901. I've been searching for Walmsley and tried Wolmsley and have had a quick look at all W's. I've even tried it starting with M incase it was written or transcribed badly. She has to be there I just can't figure out the name. Toni |

Just a thought....following on from the marriage details above, there's this death: Name: George Fox Birth Date: abt 1826 Year of Registration: 1872 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun Age at death: 46 District: Stafford County: Staffordshire Volume: 6b Page: 5 Could it be that 20-year old Julia married 46- year old George Fox who died within a few months of the marriage? Maybe she simply continued to live under her maiden name for convenience. |

I haven't posted this before so I don't know if the mother marrying later is correct. If someone remembers the case I'd love to hear from them. I haven't got around to ordering the cert yet. I'm on a budget. I didn't think I'd have so much trouble finding her on the census. If the senario above is correct the birth cert wont help. Toni |

Her marriage record suggests that Walmsley was her maiden name. Name: Julia Ann H Walmsley Year of Registration: 1871 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Stoke Upon Trent County: Staffordshire Volume: 6b Page: 354 Only four people appear on that page.... George Fox Margaret Neale Francis Simpson Julia Ann H Walmsley So she would have become either a Fox or a Simpson. |

have we looked for this before, or least least people of that name - ?? Did her mother marry after her birth maybe and for census purpose maybe she was raised in her step fathers name until it came to official things like marriage |

Hello, I'm trying to find my x-great grandma in the 1861 or 71 census and am failing miserably. Could someone please help me find her or give ideas for typos that I can search for? Her name is Julia Ann H Walmsley and she was born in 1852 in Newcastle-under-lyme, Staffordshire and she married in late 1871 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Her mothers name is Elizabeth and I suspect she was unmarried. I don't have Julia's birth cert. I can find her in every census from 1881 on in her married name. The census just says Newcastle, Staffordshire. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Toni |
