Any one interested in the actual asylum should google Sneinton Asylum, there are several good sites. My original post was just to indicate how difficult it is to trace a relative if poorly transcribed or sadly listed somewhere like this place. Although I think a little madness keeps us all chasing.......... Regards to all, Bob

Ooooh I live in Sneinton. I may have to have a sniff around and see where abouts it was. I'm probably living in it as I type, or am I typing or is this just a figmant of my mentally ill mind? Oh god I'm going mad!!!

P.S to Gary, Jess, Kat & all who have helped me, the info that Rempstone Notts was the Registration and Ecclesastical district of Loughborough Leicestershire has been stupendous and also will be of help to others. My search has been renewed with this, certificates ordered for this family will confirm or deny my investigations, May 4 delivery. Good hunting, Bob

Nice replies, It is a shame that all that is recorded of a person is something like Wm A, 1826 Basford, it just confirms how hard it can be to find a relative now, who was an ordinary person then. Bob, in the ever persistant hunt for Tom begat Tom.....close now though!

it was common for institutions to just list people by initial, this persons name may have been Mary Ann Dixon, intials MAD, the transcripts were done abroad with no knowlage of this, not at all strange or unusual

City and County Mental Hospital is in Sneinton until it moved to Saxondale.

It just says it's the Nottingham Asylum. Unfortunately, the ''Description of Enumeration District'' page has been left BLANK by the enumerator! Merry

does it give details as to where the asylum was. I'm aware of Mapperley Hospital but unsure if it was used as an asylum back then.

Check these page images out on Ancestry, found it while trawling, apology if its been up before. It must be a nightmare if one of your relatives is here. No proper names in the lists. Just initials & maybe a Mr. One poor chap has been transcribed as M A D,
