Can anyone give me some tips please - first time I have tried using this board. I am registered with Ancestry and have found a death record for a relative no probs, which gives a birth date also, but when I look for this birth record in the index I can find no trace at all. I have tried searching a year or two either side of the date, with no luck. Apart from being born outside England and Wales what other possibilities could there be please as to why it is not listed? Many thanks. Nicky |

Whats the name and approximate birth year? If female are you sure of maiden name? My grandmother had her name changed by deed poll (long story) but it could happen. Suzanne |

I have found George Henry Bevan on the death index, May 1986 in Surrey and says birth date is 7 may 1894 but when I check on the birth index no sign. |

Most likely is that whoever registered the death gave an incorrect date of birth. Or could be that he was born illegitimate and registered under his mother's (maiden) surname but later used his father's surname of Bevan? Kate. |

OK, that would make sense - I will just have to check other possibilities around that time. I am pretty sure that George was born in either Pembrokeshire or Denbighshire, Wales. Thanks |

Thanks for those. I have not yet had to order a death certificate for anyone, but If I were to order this certificate of George Bevan, would it give his place of birth, even though the birth date could have been given incorrectly? |

Sue, thank you, I think thats it - didn't look at BEVANS, but could well be the one as its actually Haverfordwest in Pembs that seems to be the place that keeps cropping up. |
