Today I have been on a graveyard search. I knew of this grave before I went but had to check it out for myself. It has 5 children ranging from 13 years to one year old. Two died on the same day. All within a few weeks of each other. This is my hubbys side of the family, although not in his direct line, its close enough for me to need to know more. Curiosity is getting to me know and of how sad it is.

Deaths all in Suffolk. September for two of them, the headstone was very hard to read!

I had a look at epidemics reported in The Times.....Smallpox in Gloucester.....nothing for Suffolk.....but an out break of something could be very localised........ Merry

Thanks for looking Merry. I did do a quick search but nothing seemed to be for that area. Better do some more research! Well nobody said this family history lark was going to be easy!

It could have been part of a nationwide epidemic, or just a localised infection/virus which they weren't strong enough to fight off. Lots of children died of diarrhoea in those days as they would be dehydrated. nell
