Received the following message after sending my gedcom file for upload a couple of days ago to GR: I have pasted it as it appears in my mail. I'm hoping somebody can interpet this... I have given up trying to communicate with GR. I also visited the site - and yes I cold view my tree - except the new one has NOT been uploaded so that's probably why I can still view it. Also does anyone know how to view a tree on GR when you're not online (????) - see below - I thought that was the whole point of paying £9 Here's the message 'Your Gedcom file has now been processed The file could not be loaded: An unknown error has occured. The support team has been notifed The following errors have been identified: An unknown error has occured. The support team has been notifed The following warnings have been identified. These warnings have not prevented your family tree from being uploaded but you may experiance some difficulty is viewing your tree online: No warnings Visit Genes Reunited Now Regards Genes Reunited Support' |

Hi Carole. this probably means that you have a situation in your tree that the GR program does not handle. What software are you using? Does that give you any warning messages? Jim |

Carole I can't help you with your problem I'm afraid but I just wanted to say hello and commiserate as a fellow Mac user. It seems we are the poor people of the genealogical world - left in our little-known often ignored Mac corner to fumble through. Zoe |

Carole My tree on genes? Not any more. When they first introduced the new tree programme it completely didn't work on the Mac at all. I emailed and complained and the response I got was along the lines of 'we know. Sorry. Can't help it' so I had to use the old tree programme which was very clunky (I'd been able to see the new one on a PC and it was very good) Now it does work for me - I'm Mac OSX. (10.2 I think!!) - but only in about the last two months - and it's an absolute godsend. I've a lot of people in my tree and with the old programme unless you know whereabouts the person is and what branch etc it was a nightmare to find anyone when being contacted and wanting to share information. How are you fnding Reunion? I tried it out before I bought a programme but eventually opted for Heredis - but there are some features on Reunion I'd love to be able to use - a lot of the data stuff especially like life-span etc And some of the tree printouts. My biggest bugbear is all the genealogy magazines who are very tunnel visioned when it comes to getting demos and samples for Mac users - the best we can hope for is a directory in pdf format for an area we're probbaly not interested in Zoe |

Hi again Zoe - are you on a G4 or a G5? Can't navigate trees on GR on the G4 but can on hubby's G5!!! Very strange as we both have the same version of OSX!! I love Reunion (was making do with Paf on VirtualPC before - hiss!) -messed up the system of course. Haven't explored all the possibilities yet - :-) Carole |
