You could try contacting the Wakefield register office. If he died as you say, I imagine it might have made the local newspapers. nell |

Tom I'm not sure how far back their records go, but you can do an online search of burial and cremation records on the Wakefield Council site. A kind person on here located a record for me that way. I don't know the website address, but suggest you google Wakefield Council. Mandy in Somerset |

69 seems a very old age to be still working in a mine. I thought most miners were too unhealthy to continue much beyond their 50s. nell |

I;ve searched about five years each side - any more and my grandmother would not have remembered him or would have remebered too much as it were, I'm using the BETA on ancestry. |

My g g grandad William Henry Chilton was born in 1869. My great uncle remembers him dieing down th pit at the age of 69.This would mean about 1938. My grandmother says that she does remember him but not that well which would tie in as she would have only been about 8 at the time. However, I cannot find him and have searched a wide range. The one possibilty I have found is too old and is in the wrong area.. I know that he died of a heart attack, so wasn't in an accident, any ideas? He should have been registered in the Wakefield district. |
