Hello :) Just discovered the WW1 Campaign Medal cards on the Nat. Archives site, very exciting as we've already found one inidividual. My question is that my great grandfather (Frederick Barnes) fought in Salonika (1916-1918), but didn't die in the war - so i can't find him as a deceased soldier obviosuly, and get his service details that way. We also don't kow which reg./corps he fought with, though possibly the Kings reg of Liverpool. Is there any way of finding out which regiments fought where, as this would at least help me narrow it down a bit in the records. He is proving rather elusive to me, birth wise, so this is another way in really. Any help, as always, much appreciated |

I thought his regiment would be shown on the medal card? probably abbreviated so might look like nonsense - but in the boxes named ''corps'' & 'regt' |

I don't actually have his card yet (sorry didn't make myself clear), there are loads of f.barnes, so was hoping to anrrow down by fiding out which regiments fought in Salonika at that time. Will have a good look at the site suggested thanks! |

There is one Frederick Barnes in the Liverpool Regiment showing up on the National Archives WW1 medal list. On the search form, just type in Liverpool in the Keyword box and it will come up. |

Just found this snippet on the 1914-1918 website - look up Army Organisation/Infantry Regiments/Kings (Liverpool) 2nd (Garrison) Battalion Formed November 1915, then to Egypt and Salonika. 28 August 1917 : attached to 228th Brigade, 28th Division There's lots of useful info on that site - pluse any military questions you have you can post on their forum - there are extremely helpful members on there. Hope that's helped. |

Hi Sara I would say make sure which company within the regiment he was with - some were posted to one place/county and some another. My great uncle was in the Kings Liverpool Regiment during the first world war and he died in France. Snowdrops |

Adding to what Anthea said there was also the 14th (service) Bn. with the 65th Brigade of the 22nd divison. Keith |
