Hubbys g'ma - Eliza M. Garrard b. 1882 in Poplar. Got her birth, 3 x marriage certs & death ref. Can't do anymore on her or her children (given up on the eldest for now). Siblings are Arthur b.1880c., Emily. B1876c, James b.1875c, William b. 1884c and Frederick b. 1885c. Have family on all censuses back to Suffolk origins c. 1800. Know nothing of any of them coming forward so looked on freebmd for possible birth refs - unusual enough surname and all that, shouldn't be too many born in Poplar...... none! Not one single Arthur, Emily, James, William or Frederick. Plenty in neighbouring London districts (forgive the geography of a northerner) - Pancras, Holborn, Shoreditch, Hackney, Brentford .... let's move into Suffolk and add in Stow, Ipswich, Norwich etc... Cross match the siblings so lets look for a common registration district for say William & Frederick. Ok I give up! Not so many that it's impossible but at £7 a cert it could be expensive and I always read the info. bit on the ONS ordering site ambiguously when it comes to reference checks. So! If I want the birth cert. of Arthur George Garrard, Sep 1879, St Saviour but I want them to check before sending it to me against the Arthur William Garrard b. St Olave in 1878 or the Arthur Alfred H born Lambeth in 1878 etc. etc. do I pay £7 plus £3 for each reference check (entry) ad infinitum. I know both parents names from my Eliza's birth cert. Or just £7 plus £3 for the job lot of looking at all the other references?
