I think we can say 100% that Cis named on the family headstone is Emma the daughter showing on the 1901 census born 1896. Going to the cemetary in a couple of weeks to view the grave and the others that are also there. Thanks Joanne

Look at the buriel index for the place she is buried, it should have her correct name in it, not the one the mason was told to put on the headstone

Possible for Cis is also from the borthers that she had, What seems sad is she obviously didn't marry and she died between her fathers and mothers deaths. At least without sounding awful she is one less to trace forward, now just left with her brothers and a sister I had forgot all, about to trace forwards and hopefully find a living rellie how knows what happened to Cis's Uncle my great grandfather who vanished in 1921 Joanne

Maybe it was just a pet name, pehaps it came about with the Mum being called Emma also and the father William used the pet name Cis, to stop the confusion. Thanks for the suggestions, it always helps to have another person look at it! Thankyou Joanne

GRO death indexes have a Westwood, Emma age 43 Sheffield 9c p398 so it looks as though this is Cis. Perhaps called Cis in the family to distinguish her from her mother? nell

Possibly Cis was a pet name for Emma. But I don't know how you will prove this. I suppose you could try to find Cis/Emma's death cert in 1938. nell

Not sure - just a suggestion - could it have been a pet name? Have you looked for Cis on the 1901 census - she might have been living with relatives. Have you got birth cert for Emma, and have you looked for one for Cis, Sorrry, that;s all i can suggest. Maybe someone else will come up with something else...

I have in my family tree William Westwood born 1874 Sheffield married Emma Glover. On the 1901 census they are together with their children, Emma born 1896 and also the sons, Emma is the only daughter at this point. I have then been able to find the inscription on the headstone for the parents William and Emma It reads:- 'In Loving memory of William H WESTWOOD who died 6th May 1924 aged 52 years also his wife Emma who died 26th November 1942 aged 69 years. Also Cis daughter of the above who died 5th December 1938 aged 42' But who is Cis? could it be Emma as the age is right at death for it to be Emma? Confused and any advice appreciated Joanne
