although i've been a member for six months now i have yet to have a hot match with the name smith! surely this isn't right, for some reason it seems to always be the first half of the alphabet. would somebody please explain how hot matches occur? i'm i doing something wrong? julie

Jeanette This week I got ten pages - thats about 200 names?? And I am up to the letter T. To answer the question - I think Gr throw all the names in a hat and pull them out in twos! Doesnt seem to be any more logic to it than that, in my opinion. Olde Crone

I got as far as H and then uploaded my tree again to update it. Guess what? Hot matches are now back on the A's and B's! I've given up hope of seeing if any of my Willis' or Websters get a match! Sam x

I am stuck on A to H. It works like this. I get a hot match for one of my Blackers or Cox's. We both add info to our tree then the new names come back as hot matches. I linked up with Clifford and Challenger family members this time - very pleased lots of new info but I don't think I will ever trace my Wiltons or Whithers.

I never bother with my hot matches as they only ever seem to range from stone cold to luke warm. If I want to find out if other people are researching the names I'm interested in, I use the 'name search' option - at least with that you can search on birthplace as well as name and year. Richard

Sam, If you load a new tree they appear to start again from scratch. Same way as names appear as new in 'My Tree Matches'

Don't know about going throught the alphabet. Nearly all mine have been Smith (all no connection!) and White & Wilson! (all no connection) Have had a few for Cook. Don't think I've had any others. Seriously thinking of 'unsubsribing' until they can incorporate the place of birth into the matching system. Debbie
