I know some clever soul can tell me how a british man becomes a 'sgt Canadian forces'...... although his uncles wife who was canadian may have encouraged her family to return to Canada or could they have mixed up the 2 females country of birth up and his mother might have been Canadian on the census where they all lived together but would that have helped him become a Canadian soldier?? many thanks (on an 1919 marriage cert as rank or profession) |

My G Grandad's brother was in the Canadian army in WW1. He was born in Wales and moved to Canada a few years before the war began but was never a Canadian citizen. He came back to wales after the war. I know there was an amazing website for people that were in the Canadian army, I downloaded my GG Uncle's enrolement papers for free, lots of useful information. If you are interested I'll try and find out the address. |

My great great grandfather born in Scotland to a Scottish mother and English father was in the Canadian army during the first world war. I dont think it mattered at the time where you where from plus isnt Canada something to do with the brittish empire? Did he emigrate across there for awhile? Not sure about the rest of your post - my brains not working to night. Have you looked on the Canadian archives website because if he served in ww1 then his records might be help there - well his assertion papers giving you a starting point to order the rest. |

This is the address where you can download the 'Attestation Paper' for free. I think you can order a full copy of the army record for a fee. http://www . collectionscanada . ca/02/02010602_e.html You need to remove the gaps |
