Just been looking at my hubbies Guiness book of records for 2006 and makes interesting reading. Most Descendants- In polgamous countries, the number of a persons descendants can be incalculable. At the time of his death on 15th Oct 1992, the monogamous Samuel S Mast (usa) then aged 96, had 824 living descendants: 11 children: 97 grandchildren: 634 great grandchildren: and 82 gg grand-children. Most Siblings to serve in ww2- 9 brothers, Albert, Jim, Harry, Arthur, Bill, Tom, Dick, Sid and Wally Windsor. (all UK) served in ww2. This is shared with 8 other lewtas brothers who also served between 1939-1945. Record Breaking Mothers- Maddalena Granata (italy) 1839-1886 gave birth to 15 sets of triplets.(not all at one I add) Mrs F Vassilyev (Russia 1707-c1782) in 27 seperate confinements gave birth to 69 children (16 pairs of twins, 7 sets of triplets and 4 sets of quadruplets) Merryl Thelma Fudel- Oldest mother to give birth to quadruplets age 55years. Most generations alive at once from a single family- The youngest is Augusta Bunge (usa) 109 yrs 97 days, followed by her daughter aged 89, her grand-daughter age 70, her great grandaughter age 52 and her gg grandaughter age 33 and her ggg grandaughter age 15 on the birth of her gggg grandson on 21 Jan 89. An Olde Crone

An Olde Crone Report 13 Mar 2006 22:24

I was hunting unsuccessfully for my 2 x GF, James Holden. Someone tipped me off about a book concerning Timothy Holden aka Owd Timothy o't' Looms, born in 1700, died 1791, in what was then the tiny hamlet of Darwen in Lancashire. Although I couldnt actually find a link to him I became very intrigued and did a proper tree for him. I have so far found over 5000 descendants of this man and still counting. I was also able to pin down his baptism, which apparently no one else had ever been able to do - he was never actually baptised but there is a note at the BACK of the Parish Register, fining his parents for NOT having him baptised. I couldnt believe I was the only person to spot this. And, weirder still, a James Holden, grandson of Owd Timothy, is marked on all the charts as 'disappeared, leaving behind a wife and two small children'. Well, I was mooching through a newly published family history book, which had a lot of stuff about Admiral Nelson - yawn, yawn. There was a photograph of the Surgeons log, desctribing how Nelson had his arm amputated. The next entry under this was for a James Holden!!!! To cut a long story short, a lovely lady on this Site looked up this James Holden for me at Kew and from the info she gave me, I was able to confirm that it was the same man. It was a very strange feeling to know that I was the ONLY person who knew what had happened to him and I passed the info onto the local family historian concerned - the group was frothing with excitement and I have now gained a (totally undeserved!) reputation as a hot shot researcher LOL.
