Will try to find Death certs. But so many William but don't indicate Clarence. I have no idea who the aunt was, or from what side. Frustrating eh! Beryl.

Got it, he was born in 1902 but not registered till 1st quarter of 1903. Have you tried looking for death certs instead as that might shed a bit of light? If you could find those you would know which of them died first (Emily's will say whether she was wife or widow when she died). It will give William's occupation and also it will give their ages. Another thought - if you know about the aunt that brought him up we might be able to trace the parents through her, as she must have been sister/sister-in-law to one of them. nell

The birth entry is for husband's father. William senior's occupation as stated on son's birth cert was journeyman/bootmaker. I have tried to find their marriage, but that's also as big a mystery. Thank you to all who have responded. Beryl

He was only child as far as we know, the parents died when he was a child and he was reared by an Aunt? No other info is available.

Does your husband know of any brothers/sisters of his father, that might have been born before the census? nell

Whose birth is this then: William Clarence Barrett Year of Registration: 1903 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Kensington County: Greater London, London, Middlesex Volume: 1a There are pages of William Barrett on 1901. Can't find any in Kensington that look likely or any with initial C. that look likely either. I think you will have to try to find the marriage first as a) that will tell you whether or not the parents were married/single on census night and b) give William senior's occupation and age and father's name which will help track him down c) give Emily's age and her father's details too nell

My husbands father was born in 1902 in Kensington - names William Clarence Barrett. Birth Cert. states his father was William Clarence Barrett and mother Emily Barrett (nee New) I can find no record of them in the 1901 census or of their marriage. Is there anyone out there willing to take time to have a look also. Many thanks, Beryl - a new kid on the block. Hi Jess, as far as I know he was the only child, no idea where they were born, but all family from them on were in London area. William and Emily supposedly died while Will. Clarence was a child and he was bought up by an aunt. Don't have any other details sorry.
