Hi, thanks to some very kind people on here earlier on in the week i was able to locate and orde the birth cert of my g g grandma, Florence Georgina Gordon Kerr, born in India in 1879. i know she had three older sisters, but none of them had Gordon in the name. (all born in INdia again) They were all children of Thomas Kerr and Olivia. The problem is I cannot find any info about Thomas and Olivia - it's so frustrating. I'm thinking that Gordon could have been Olivia's maiden name? Does anybody know - the name Gordon is Scottish isn't it? Would i need to find info about their marriage? I'm just stuck and would appreciate any suggestions - thank you all yet again, Tom

Do you know how long and why they were in India? The marriage cert would help as it would give Olivia's maiden name and also both of their father's names and occupations to help you go further back. But you'd need to know where they married - India, Scotland, England or elsewhere. nell

Tom - this must be their marriage! Marriage Index Record Back to Search Results -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presidency of Marriage BENGAL Marriage Year 1871 Husband First Names Thomas Husband Surname Kerr Wife First Names Olivia Wife Surname Meskell Comments 187113677 Transcribed by FIBIS Volunteers I found it on the FIBIS website http://www.fibis.org/index.htm Well worth a look. Doesn't explain where the 'Gordon' part came from, though. KAte.

Tom, Do you know what Thomas was doing in India - was he in the army, or working for someone? Have you any details of him from the birth cert? Just wondered if 'Gordon' had anything to do with his job or who he worked for - it didn't necessarily have to be a family name from a parental line, although it might be. Jay

I have a branch of Alchins who were in West Bengal at the same time. I believe it was just after Queen Vic became Empress, so they could have worked for the Diplomatic service, or Government, or for one of the big Trading Companies. I know that mine lived there for at least 40 years, but I haven't found out why yet..

Thanks everyone - I'm going to order the marriage cert, I don't think that she is someone elses daughter - marriage cert and the Church of Later days saints suggest this. Anyway - have ordered her birth cert so this should be cleared up soon. thanks everyone!

Somebody on this site has an Olivia Meskell, born in Canberra, Australia in 1998. It may have nothing to do with your Olivia, but it's an unusual name...
