I've spent ages on Ancestry looking for a family who were on the 1901 census but I can't find them anywhere after that. No marriages or deaths, where can they have gone? I would expect the marriages to be in the 1910 -1920 era. I've found all the children's births, but nothing else. Any ideas? Or have the aliens got 'um!!

Liz because the children were born towards the end of the century and freeBMD's have only been transcribed upto about 1912 you will have to trawl through the GRO indexes to find their marriages or deaths and Wood is a very common name. It is easier to trace the family backwards than forwards. For reference are these the families in 1901... Susan Pragnell abt 1829 Lynn, Norfolk, England Boarder Hertford Hertfordshire Daisy Mildred Weed abt 1900 Hertford, Hertfordshire, England Daughter Hertford Hertfordshire Fanny Weed abt 1869 Ware, Hertfordshire, England Wife Hertford Hertfordshire George Wm Weed abt 1867 Hertford, Hertfordshire, England Head Hertford Hertfordshire Nellie Boris Weed abt 1895 Hertford, Hertfordshire, England Daughter Hertford Hertfordshire Phyllis Amelia Weed abt 1897 Hertford, Hertfordshire, England Daughter Hertford Hertfordshire Source information: RG13/1305 Registration district: Hertford Sub-registration district: Hertford ED, institution, or vessel: 8 Folio: 74 Page: 11 (click to see others on page) Household schedule number: 73 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- George Adams abt 1883 Ware, Hertfordshire, England Son Ware Hertfordshire Joseph Adams abt 1843 Ware, Hertfordshire, England Head Ware Hertfordshire Lilly Adams abt 1888 Ware, Hertfordshire, England Daughter Ware Hertfordshire Sarah Adams abt 1843 Ware, Hertfordshire, England Wife Ware Hertfordshire William Adams abt 1881 Ware, Hertfordshire, England Son Ware Hertfordshire George Wood abt 1893 Ware, Hertfordshire, England Grandson Ware Hertfordshire Rose Wood abt 1891 Ware, Hertfordshire, England Granddaughter Ware Hertfordshire Source information: RG13/1282 Registration district: Ware Sub-registration district: Ware ED, institution, or vessel: 5 Folio: 98 Page: 25 (click to see others on page) Household schedule number: 136 Did Fanny give birth to Lilly before she married George Wood because in 1901 she is down as an Adam's. Liz I have found a marriage on the GRO index and I think she is one of yours... Phyllis A Wood married James A Carmichael in the march quarter of 1919 in Hitchin ref no:3a 1267. You would need to order the certificate to make sure it was your Phyllis. Georgina.

Georgina, Great, brilliant you're a star. Yes Lily was born before Fanny and George were married, she is registered as Lily Wood Adams. I think Fanny was a bit of a girl, one illigimate child at 20 and two more at 37 and 39! would have though she might have more sense at that age. Thanks again, will persue Phillis's marriage. How did you find it by the way, where am I going wrong?

I should think you are only looking at the transcribed section - which is far from complete. You have to go down to the list under the search box and click on the bmd index beta. As already explained, this will mean trawling through the images quarter by quarter to find your people.
