Matthew After 1910 its a question of going through the relevant GRO indexes quarter by quarter year by year. You can do this ONLINE Free -www.ancestry*co.uk you need to register and then choose the England & Wales civil reg beta list. Payperview -www.1837online*com FREE -at a library/archive that has the indexes on microfiche -in big index books at the Family Records Centre in London. nell

http://www.ancestry(.)co(.)uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8965 remove brackets marriage index on Ancestry - free to search - but takes time as you have to go through each quarter individually

Thanks for this info. I just used it and found someone for my tree. The numbers that are shown on the right-hand side, is there anywhere we can use these to look for more info? thanks Audrey

Audrey, The numbers on the right hand side are the volume and page numbers, this is what you use when ordering the certs from the GRO

The information shown is the GRO reference :- There will be a place name - which is the district of Registration - a volume reference a page number You need these three pieces of information, plus the year and quarter of the registration, when you order certificates
