I've come across two ancestors with the forename Seppy. Does anyone know if this is a full name or a pet form of something - Josephine maybe? Thanks, Michael |

I am not familiar with it myself, but it may stand for Seraphina. Liz |

just looked on ancestry most seem to be women but one male in 1995 got it as a middle name Jeanette which could be Septimus or female Septima |

Just looked at a list of baby names and there is the female name September (I've never heard it before), but Seppy could be short for this. Kath. x |

Had a little look around - the name seems to be Jewish. - Perhaps someone who knows more about Jewish culture + history could assist further. Dea |

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. The two Seppys are mother and daughter - the daughter was the oldest and the mother I don't know about as I haven't managed to trace that line any further. |

I don't think they were Jewish - I've found Seppy snr's marriage and jnr's baptism at the parish church. |

I would imagine that if the marriage and baptism are in the name Seppy, then that is the name they were given and it isn't short for anything. Kath. x |
