My GGGrandmothers husband only appears in the 1881 census, and on the marriage cert. I can't find any other trace of him (had a load of people looking last night). Can anyone suggest somewhere else I could look to find out who he was, his parents etc? I'll offer this lot up for anyone elses lost lol

What is his name? Does the marriage certificate give his father's name and occupation? Kath. x

His name was James Siddle. His father (on the cert) was George. Both were Dyers. In 1881, he lived in Heckmondwike, Yorkshire. Don't try looking for him on Ancestry though - he's nowhere to be found lol

Jess, his DOB is debatable. According to the census, he was born c1854. However, on the marriage cert, he is only 24 (so c1857). Take your pick :) Elaine looked through the BMD register, to recheck for me, but she couldn't find him there.

Could this be his birth registration from 1837online (the qtr is missing from Ancestry). The image is very poor but I'm pretty certain it says James Siddle:- June qtr. 1854, Bradford 9b, 229 I know he gives his birthplace as Leeds, but Bradford isn't too far away. Since you know his father's name was George, you could order the certificate and give George as the father's name as a checking point. Kath. x

Have you looked at this website for the Leeds/Bradford area? http://www.calverley.info I can't immediately spot a James, but it may suggest avenues to follow.

Thanks Kath. I think that's the Pudsey one. His father is John though.
