Im looking for my great-great-grandfather, George Birch, and have checked every free site I can and Nothing! His son George Judson Birch was born 1859, in Eccleshall Bierlow, Derbyshire West Riding of Yorkshire and married Emma Baxter in 1880 in Salford, Lancs. George Judson's dad is listed as deceased in 1880 on their marriage certificate. Ive searched the IGI and found no record of George Birch's birth, death or marriage, so have ordered George Judson's birth cert. All I do know about his dad is that he was a surgeon. I'd really like to find out also if George Judson had any bros and sisters so a census search seems the only way. Is there anyone with access to 1851 and 1861 surveys who would be willing to search for George Birch for me? Thank you Hilary (member)

Ecclesall Bierlow is actually a census district in Sheffield and is definately in Yorkshire if it helps. Helen (in Sheffield!)

Image not clear but I think Georges age is 23 months and Charles age 3 months Father George is not a surgeon - think it says Tan manufacturer - so we can eliminate this one !!!!

The occupation of the George that Elaine found is 'saw manufacturer', not likely he changed occupation to surgeon unless he actually cut off people's legs with his saws! LOL

Can´t see anything obvious - think you will have to be patient and wait until the birth certificate arrives !!

I've had a look at the historical directories site and checked White's for Sheffield. They had 1856 and 1862 but nobody named Birch who was a surgeon. Tailor, school master and victlr. were the only ones listed
