finally plucked up the courage to get the marriage certificate for the only and only match to my fathers name. doesnt confirm what i hoped itwould. only confirms that he was born in the right year and that he lives few miles down the road from where he was born, and where i currently live. no reference to his place of birth or hisfathers name or occupation. just a line through it. was told by family that he probably had no contact with his dad. don'twant same to happy to me, can anyone give me some ideas?

have suspicion his mum didnt want to know his dad as he tried to visit her whilst with my mum, and she shut the door in his face. probably why he dont care bout his dads details on marraige cert. plus was 2nd marriage, stated that his previous marriage dissolved.

Karina Sorry to be thick here, but I don't understand what it is you want to do? If you know where he lives, what is the problem? Olde Crone

i know i sound silly. but i dont wanna go knocking if it not him. trying to find another way of proving it without just turning up. only one lead means if its not then not just brick wall but bloody great wall of china. looking for ideas on how to get more info without rocking the boat and upsetting his new marriage if maybe needlessly. far too sensitive aren't i.

Whether or not this person has a father named or not on his marriage certificate, doesn't have anything to do with whether or not he is your father, does it? A line through where the father's name should be usually means that the person in question was illegitimate and not that he didn't care about his father. As Olde Crone says, if you know where he lives you could send him a letter. You don't have to say that you think he is your father, just that you are looking for a Mr. ........ who once knew .......(your mother's name) and wondered if it might be him. Kath. x

You must be talking about a Scottish marriage certificate, as you wouldn't get any mention of place of birth on an English certificate anyway, even if his father's name was on it. Kath. x
