I was wondering if in the olden days....... mid 1800's could there have been a snobbery value between the two places as my dear departeds changed their birth place from Chartham to Chatham?? thanks for any thoughts |

Hi, I live in Kent. Chatham is one of the medway towns in Kent. Chartham is a village just outside Canterbury. They are about forty miles apart. |

that might be best. I see on your other thread you are looking for someone in Chillham which is only four miles from Chartham |

Chartham is where, in those non-PC days, the area's lunatic asylum was, so perhaps they didn't like the association. Even when I was small (don't ask) you were threatened with 'being sent to Chartham'. |
