Hi, Have just found that my gt gt grandfather served as a chief engineer on the ship Berymist / Beramese (illegible writing) I've tried A2A site tried to search the ships name, his name, royal navy, Engineers etc. Did the same with google, all with no luck. Where else can I find info? He was in the East Indies in 1857 as we've just found his son's christening records with the info & the ship he served on? I know about Kew but unless you know how and where to look it's dreadfull, would appreciate guidance on this. Regards Lou |

If Leah's idea dosn't work I suggest contacting the Martime Museum or the Naval museum if they can't help you they should be able to tel you where to look. Gypsy Joe (Ex Sea Dog myself) |

Hi Lou What makes you think that he was in the Royal Navy? Looking at TNA's catalogue, I can find Bermuda and Berryman, but nothing that resembles Berymist or Beramese etc. Either this is a merchant ship, or the initial letter might be wrong. |

Another good one to look on its a type of forum web site, it has alot of naval and army experts on it that might be able to tell you. You have to sign up, but it's free and there's a section on there call ships and navy.you post your query and people get back to you, bit like genes but more specialised. www.1914-1918.invisionzone.com it's not just for those war years either. catherine |

Hi,Phoenix (AFof C) Resurgam , found his wife on census & it states she was Engineers wife (Royal Navy). The rest of the info is from a christening record, we have the address of where they lived in Bombay also. All I know is my cousin has informed me that the writing looks like a Beamist/ Beramese or Beramyst, I can't say further as I've not seen the record. Lou |

Hi All, I've researched as advised and think I now know the correct name of the ship - HM steam Frigate SEMIRAMIS, it sounds similiar to Beramese / Berymyst, so this could be the one! Just thought I'd give you this little snippet of info and say thanks for the help If anyone can help me further I'd really appreciate the help. thanks everyone again, Lou |
