Hi Can anybody advise me on where to go next: My Gt Uncle Frank Spencer was born in 1891 in Acton Cheshire he married Sarah Elizabeth Stevenson in May 1915 at Nantwich Parish Church. In October of the same year Frank got killed why fighting with the Cheshire Regiment, on the CWCG site he is listed as son of Edwin and Elizabeth Spencer of Acton Nantwich cheshire (which is correct), husband of Sarah Elizabeth Spencer of 71 St Kilda Street, Belfast. I have a copy of the Marriage Certificate which states Sarah's father was Zachariah Stevenson a Gamekeeper. I canot find any trace of either Zachariah or Sarah on any Census. I also have the War records of Frank's elder brother who also got killed during WW1 in 1916 and he left all his worldly possesions to Sarah Spencer living at the same address 71 St Kilda St Belfast. I am trying to find out where Sarah was before the marriage. Can anybody please advise where to go next. Cheryl

What age did Sarah say she was in 1915? Was it a church or registery office wedding? (oops - please ignore, I should have read your Q again!!) Was Zacharius recorded as dec'd? Merry

Hi Merry My mistake Nantwich Registry Office not Church!!!!!! Sarah was 26 on the marriage certificate and her father was not listed as deceased, but Franks father was which was correct. It says that Sarah was residence at the time of marriage was Burland Nantwich Cheshire, which I am assuming was Franks address as that is where his family were from. The two witnesses were and Ann lockett and J Wright I have no adea who they were. Regards cheryl Just checked they were married at Nantwich Registry Office

There is this family with a dau Sarah and father Zac. I wouldn't worry about the Stephenson being spelled differently, but I would worry about him being a Glass and China Dealer!!! Elizabeth Stephenson abt 1888 Loftus, Yorkshire, England Daughter Loftus Yorkshire James A Stephenson abt 1898 Loftus, Yorkshire, England Son Loftus Yorkshire Jane Stephenson abt 1868 Gainsborough, Yorkshire, England Wife Loftus Yorkshire Mary A Stephenson abt 1897 Loftus, Yorkshire, England Daughter Loftus Yorkshire >>>>Sarah Stephenson abt 1895 Loftus, Yorkshire, England Daughter Loftus Yorkshire Zachariah Stephenson abt 1856 Stokesley, Yorkshire, England Head Loftus Yorkshire Zachariah Stephenson abt 1900 Loftus, Yorkshire, England Son Loftus Yorkshire I will look back to see what dad was doing in previous years....... Just posting for completeness, but he's a china and glassdealer on this one too, which really sounds unlikely!! Elizabeth Stephenson abt 1888 Lofthouse, Yorkshire, England Daughter Lofthouse Yorkshire Janes Stephenson abt 1866 Guisborough, Yorkshire, England Wife Lofthouse Yorkshire >>>>Lachariah Stephenson abt 1861 Stokesley, Yorkshire, England Head Lofthouse Yorkshire Lachariah Stephenson abt 1890 Lofthouse, Yorkshire, England Son Lofthouse Yorkshire I'd forget all that then! Hi Merry I'm thinking Irish but how the h*** did him and Sarah get together, wonder if she was working over here during the War? Any idea's how I can get an Irish Birth Certificate? Cheryl

With difficulty!!! I think you have to contach the Irish GRO in Dublin. Because her birth was before 1920 you don't need to worry about whether she was born in Northern I or Eire. Luckly she doesn't have a very ''Irish'' surname and has two forenames. The Irish GRO will do a search for you (for a few euros), and you have a rough year which is a start. At least having Zac as a father, you should know if you have the WRONG cert!! Good Luck Merry
