'Extra Details' tab on Family Trees

I wonder if anyone can advise.... I recently re-uploaded my family tree to GR, due to having loads of new additions - by using a Gedcom file created from my Legacy Family History program. However, I've noticed that all my personal research notes, details and theories added against many of my names on the tree, have also been transferred over, and can now be viewed in the 'Extra Details' tab. Now - my question is, is this information viewable by anyone I have given permission to view my tree - or is it only viewable by me as the tree owner? I don't mind sharing names, dates etc with anyone who is researching the same names as me - but I don't see it fair that I should also share all my notes, sources and details with them - especially if they aren't prepared to put the work in themselves. I've asked the same question of the GR support team - but so far no response received. Can anyone advise....? Thanks... Alison

Oh dear - that's not what I wanted to hear, but I thought it might be the case.... I'll have to have a good look inside Legacy, and see if there's a way I can surpress this information when I convert to a Gedcom file - and see what happens. Thanks for your help and quick response. Ali xx

I also found this AND that all 'living people' details are transferred as well. I am now spending loads of time replacing names with 'unknown' . I would have been quicker just transferring the names I wanted in the first place. That said, I do like the Genes site.

Hi all, Fortunatelty, I don't know how to upload my tree BUT I have never bothered to find out as I didn't want all my information on here. I have always put them all in manually - O.K., so it takes up a lot of time but at least I know I only have enough information on here to connect with someone - Then I can select all the information I have which is relevant to them and sent it to them. More time consuming, I know, but it makes me feel happier. Dea x

I do the same as Dea, much the safest way, I limit the information to basics such as names, years and places. I am more than happy to share full information, but only when I am sure there is a definite link and the other person has a genuine interest. Jennifer

Oh Nooooo Now I have just spent the last while deleting all the rather 'sensitive' notes from some of my poor rellies...they don't want the world to see their dirty washing!!! Surely there's some way that GR can block notes if you specify that Sylvia

I wish I had done transfers manually as well, in fact I may see if I can remove the tree and start again. My main concern is ID fraud. I suppose it's possible for our details to be used, I know addresses aren't given but areas are, and we're all on public record somewhere. Oh, doom and gloom, lets look on the bright side, eh. I'll be more careful giving permission in future though, and will add details carefully. Chris

Sussed it!! When I got home tonight, I trawled through the help section of Legacy, and there is a way of suppressing information, so you can choose to convert as much or as little as you want into a Gedcom file. That being the case, I've now uploaded my tree again - with the 'personal' stuff suppressed - and hey presto!! It works!! My new tree is on Genes Reunited - just with the basic details (ie names, dates, places). Thanks for all your help - we sussed it in the end between us!
