I've looked at Entwhistle and Entwistle for the whole of 1839 and 1st quarter 1839 without success, but I did find this on Freebmd, so how sure are you she was born 1839 and in Shoreditch? Entwistle, Emma Record Type: Births Quarter: September Year: 1838 District: Bethnal Green Volume: 2 Page: 62

It's entirely possible that such an early birth was never registered. A parish register for London would be pretty easy to get hold of, I'd imagine?

Kerry For future reference....As you have already ordered the certificate. If you are ordering online from the GRO you can always use 'Reference Checking'. As you know her Father's name was William you could have put that in as a 'Check'. If it then turned out that 'this' Emma's father wasn't William you would have had £3 refunded. Fingers crossed you have the right one. Chris

Kerry If your really in doubt? I ordered on line and put in mixed details, I rang first thing the next morning and was able to make corrections without any bother or charge. oh what a dilemma! Carrie :)

Just a thought if Helen and Carrie's suggestions don't turn up trumps..... Although registration was introduced in 1837 it wasn't made compulsary until 1875 so there is a possibility that Emma's birth may not have been registered. Chris
