There's a tutorial on old writing (paleontology) on The National Archives website: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/palaeography/default.htm My tip would be, if unable to read a census page or old document - find a word you can read and look for similar letters in what you are trying to decipher. nell

There are some useful online tutorials in how to read old writing. I was lucky enough to go to a day course at my local Records Office a few years ago and they gave us lots of handouts to help but if you don't have anything like that near you these might help.
