I CANNOt find John Thomas Wheeler on the 1861 Census he would have been about 8 then - trying to find details of parents. I have him in 1871 as an 18 year old Tailor's Apprentice in Cheltenham - he was born in Gloucester. Any tips on how to find - I have tried Ancestry and have even googled but no luck. Any hints or suggestions? Thanks Chris |

Have you found him in a later census married ?.......if you could find a MC this would give you his fathers name which would help locate him in 1861 ( Maybe !) |

1001 reasons!! Most likely badly mistranscribed, or allocated the wrong (or slightly different) place of birth. With more info from certs you will probably find him...... Merry |

have you seen the Thomas Wheeler born 1853 in Gloucestershire?? his father is called John, possibility that John jnr was known by middle name so as to not confuse the two !! Jane |

I think you will just have to be patient !! the closest I could find was : Thomas Wheeler abt 1853 Hatherop, Gloucestershire, England Son Hatherop Gloucestershire whose father is JOhn .............so maybe the son was know by his 2nd name..... but that is a BIG maybe so you need the cert ! ESta |

Thanks all for your help No I think Thomas is a red herring as I wnet down this list - he is listed on 1871 also but the John Thomas i am looking for is listed on 1871 and all later censuses as John Thomas. Why he doesn't appear on 1861 is a mystery to me. Regards Chris |
