Hi Irene the census info that liz posted could be your David. If he was 25 in 1905 that would make him born in 1880 and the census is taken in 1881 so he would be 1 year old in 1881. Georgina.

The numbers should relate to all the people in the same house. I did that for the 1871 census (i think) with a very un-common name and matched up all the people with the same numbers. Doesnt give you the relationships but most of the timeyou can work that out. Mhairi

Liz thanks Dont think this is the right one as David was 25 in 1905 and thats on his marriage cert, ive been having a quick look on Scotlands People and will buy more credits during the wk, and I put in a link for the census in 1901 for a david young in coatbridge lanark, age between 20 and 24 and it comes up with 1 person, so I will try that one next. I think I am starting to get the hang of the searching, ive not really been going about it the right way, I have been in too much of a rush to find out everything, so just going to take my time and as someone else suggested not to discard any information given, so I will be writing down the information you have given me. Can I ask another question, what does it mean when you see the figures at the right hand side on Scotlands People site i.e. 652/02,017/02.002 I gather this is for a file number, but would this number be the same for any people listed at the same address? Thanks again everyone for your help.

Irene, Contact scotlandspeople via the site and let them know the image is very faint. They will then post you a legible paper copy. You also said, and I quote '' now this is where its tricky says I have always been known as young (writing very faint) mother Jessie Reid somestic servant subesquent marriage to John Young watchman'' In 1881 census there is a Jessie Reid with son David living with her brother-in-law. It is possible that Jessie had not married John Young pre 1881 census. 1881 census Dwelling: 26 Raglan St Census Place: Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland Source: FHL Film 0203658 GRO Ref Volume 644-8 EnumDist 51 Page 6 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Robert MC KENZIE M 31 M St Andrews, Fife, Scotland Rel: Head Occ: Plasterer Mary MC KENZIE M 34 F Aberdour, Fife, Scotland Rel: Wife John MC KENZIE 10 M Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland Rel: Son Occ: Scholar George MC KENZIE 8 M Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland Rel: Son Occ: Scholar Robert MC KENZIE 7 M Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland Rel: Son Occ: Scholar Alexander MC KENZIE 5 M Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland Rel: Son Occ: Scholar Thomas MC KENZIE 3 M Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland Rel: Son William MC KENZIE 1 m M Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland Rel: Son Jessie REID U 28 F Kinross, Scotland Rel: Sister In Law Occ: Domestic Servant David REID 1 M Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland Rel Nephew Liz

Hi Val Ive dowloaded the marriage cert from Scotlands People for David Reid Young and Mgt Jane McNamara (my grandparents) I'm finding it hard to get anything from the Jessie Reid side, as far as im aware her mother was Jessie Reid as well, so not having much luck on this one, this is just one side of the family, ive not started on the rest As im not very computer literate and dont know my way round these other sites I,m using up credits like wildfire. in fact ive none left at the moment. also the marriage cert ive downloaded is quite faint and I can harld;y make out the writing on it either..

If I was you I would get marriage certificate off scotlandspeople as the marriages go up to 1930, births to 1905 and deaths 1955 it does cost £6 for 30 credits but the price of the certificates more than compensate. You will get age then work out when he was born but add a year on to it then put area down or you could use his parents names also to see if there names come up Cencus on scotlandspeople 1861 to 1901 and they are putting 1851 on but are testing at moment and they are going to put on 1841 on soon
