Was wondering if anyone out there can help. All my ancestors are from Scotland. I have been researching for my mother in law and have found one child on 1871 census for Inverness born in Newcastle upon tyne, This child died the same year in Inverness. On her death it says her mother was a different person to the one her father was married to on the cenus for 1871. I have the names if anybody out there can help as I would like to find her birth. Have checked bmd but no luck. I dont really want to sign up to ancestry as I have no other English ancestors and do all my research on Scotlands people.

Hi Alison Her name is Mary Jane Russell, father Alexander Russell and mother Flora Russell m s Mcdonald. Mary Jane died in 1871 aged six in Inverness. As I said earlier on 1871 census for Inverness it says place of birth Newcastle upon tyne. If you need any more infolet me know. Thankyou.

Thankyou Jess, that does seem a strong possibility. How do I go about finding if this is her or not. I would like to know if her mother died there, as I said earlier her father had a different wife on 1871 census in Inverness. I cannot find a death for her in Scotland, or a marriage.

I have had a look on ancestry for a death for Flora Russell 1865 +/- 5 - all i can find are two in devon and one in dorset - which seem highly unlikely. suggests she dies in Scotland if she did die

Thanks all. Do I have to be registered on 1837 to get this.

Thanks Jess, Do you think it is possible they never married and her death could be under Mcdonald. As it does seem strange that the father ended up with child.

You can order the birth cert through: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp#0 If you wish to you can specify who the father should be (Checking Points). Then they will refund you about half of your £7 if the cert is not the right one....... Merry
