Hi Everyone On page 67 of the March issue of Your Family Tree magazine there is an offer for a 5 day free trial with 5 free credits on The Genealogist website. Use this link www*thegenealogist*co*uk/special/yft When you get onto the website the offer is actually 30 days free access with 10 free credits! I've just been using it. It's not so user friendly as ancestry, but if you're itching to see the 1841 census like me, then it's worth the visit. Not all counties are on there though. I've only got up three images and my credits have gone already. They seem to charge you one credit for a search (even though nothings found!) and then one again for the image. Anyway it's FREE - so make use of it! Rachel

Yes, I saw this offer on their site and it looked tempting, but in no time I'd used all my free credits and only found one possible rellie. nell

Thanks for the tip found 2 1841 census records for my 3x g grandparents, adding a possible brother for 1 and 4 children that weren't known about as 1851 is missing, and they had left parents by '61. Regards, Deb H

I have a subscription to The Genealogist site and am very pleased with the results. I also subscribed to Ancestry, also very good, as well as British Origins. This site is not very good with few good databases.

Yes, but if those databases have your relatives in them they are worth subscribing to!!!!! nell

Pat, how do you prove that the look-up is for someone in your tree? Do you have to let them see it? Just curious, Audrey

Oh dear! I've been reading some of the comments on here and didn't realise that this website had such a bad reputation. No wonder they are giving away free credits and access. What with people's reluctance to use them, and competition from Ancestry they must really be desperate for the business. Even before I read these comments I decided not to use them again. I didn't like the layout of the website - Ancestry is much more user friendly. I also didn't like being charged a credit for doing a search which came up with no results. Ours is an expensive hobby, so any chance of free access is greatly appreciated. My advice would be make use of the free access, don't buy anymore credits and don't use them again. I expect that now they have my email address I'm going to be receiving pestering emails, so when that time comes I'll block them with my email controls! Good luck! Rachel
