I am trying to trace the following .......details to follow :

Joan of Arc(hives)

Joan of Arc(hives) Report 16 Feb 2006 18:41

I can't find him anywhere, he must be mistranscribed ..... Charles Joshua HOYLE married on 4th Dec 1901. He was 29, a publican. His father has just 'Hoyle' & 'Deceased' in the space marriage cert !!! Residence at time of marriage was Boston Spa, no full address !!(Yorks) I have trawled through all Boston Spa & Thorp Arch (Yorks) for 1901 & can't find him there. I don't know his father's name, so I can't find him on 1881 or 1891 census either!! What next ?? Thanks Joan

okay - hope you can follow my workings out accoridng to Ancestry all the Charles Hoyle's born 1871 +/- 1 year appearing on 1891 and 1881 census were either born in Lancashire or Yorkshire. So using the official 1901 site I've found teh following who match that criteria with occupation publican: Charles Burns 27 Lancs St Helens Liverpool West Derby Public House Manager Charles Collins 30 Lancs Liverpool Liverpool Liverpool Public Cabman Charles Davies 27 Lancs Liverpool Lancashire Liverpool Public House Manager Charles Fielden 27 Lancashire Manchester Manchester South Manchester Publican Charles Gordon 27 Lancashire Manchester Lancaster Manchester Publican Charles Hampson 31 Lanc Hurst Nook Lancashire Hurst Publican Charles Hebden 31 Lancs Chorley lancaster chorley Publican Charles Korn 30 Lanc Liverpool Liverpool Lanc Kirkdale Public House Manager Charles Young 27 Lancashire Silverdale Shropshire St Chad Publican Charles ... 31 Yorks Sheffield Sheffield Sheffield Publican Charles Aram 31 Yorks Huddersfield Yorkshire Lindley Publican Charles Booth 30 Yorkshire Bradfield Yorkshire W R Bradfield Publican Charles Brass 31 Yorks Middlesbrough Middlesbrough Middlesbrough Publishers Clerk Charles Earnshaw 28 Yorks Berry Brow Yorkshire West Riding Dewsbury Publican Charles Skipper 30 Yorks Skelton Yorks North Riding Skelton Publican Charles Stubley 31 Yorks Batley Yorks Batley Publican Charles Tee 29 Yorkshire Norfolk Norwich Publican Charles Townend 30 Yorks Hull Kingston Upon Hull Sculcoates Publican Licensed Victualler Charles White 31 Yorks Ossett Yorkshire Soothill Nether Publican Charles Wood 30 Yorks Leeds Leeds Bramley Publican now you just nee dto find how these are transcribed in ancestry 1901 and then check them to see if they're mistrancsriptions of HOyle. Does that make sense??

Hi Merry, Sorry he was a batchelor !!! Suzi, thanks but I don't think that's him ! Maureen, hmm, might be him, if the father was a publican, usually does run in the family ! Why call him Joshua though, not Charles ?? I checked bmd on Ancestry & can only find birth in March 1872 for a Charlie Hoyle, no Joshuas born in Yorks. Any other ideas anyone ?? :0) Joan

Where is his bride on 1901 census?? Is that her sister marrying the same time? Merry

Joan of Arc(hives)

Joan of Arc(hives) Report 16 Feb 2006 19:37

Merry, His bride was Louisa Elizabeth Wilson, aged 19 spinster, residing in Thorp Arch , father Barnabas Wilson, deceased. I found her with the family in 1891. I also found Barnabas in previous censuses. :0) Joan
