I am wondering if anyone could help me with a Electrol Roll look up for Wisbech. The address I have is 57 Stow Rd. I am trying to trace a family member who lived at that address for many years. My brother was born at that addres in 1940 and in 1953 the family still lived there. I have emailed many departments in Cambridgeshire over the months with no luck. I have also contacted a person named Simon from Wolstoken Church where the family went for Sunday service again no luck. Simon then put me onto somewhere else and so the pattern continues. Can anyone HELP please. The only name I have to go on is Aunt Annie. I have also made enquiries through Friends Reunited. NOTHING Maid Marion Sydney Australia

Did you ever write to the current occupier? I think you were going to before? Walsoken is not a big place and in that area everyone tends to inter marry, so the occupier could be a good start, as could the village post office.

Thanks Heather. Thats one area I did not cover so I will write to the address and the Post Office. Thankyou Regards Marion

You could always ask if the village post office (assuming one still exists) could put a little note in their window about the family? All those old dears queuing for their pensions may know something.

There also used to be a free newspaper in Wisbech/Lynn - I think it was called the mercury - have a google. They would probably be pleased to do a little article free for you, to take up a bit of space.

Hello Heather, Just a quick up date. I could only spend a little time on the computer last night as I was so very tired after a full days work. (The Work House) I am off to work soon as its 7.30am here in Australia. Thanks for forwarding all the replies on. So far I have sent an email off to the Editor of The Standard a Mr. Brian Aspin, contacted Sue by phone at The Old Walsoken Post Office. Sue has asked me to write a letter giving as much details as I can record and she will place it in the window. Thank goodness for people like you Heather and all the other kind folk that give us the ideas. I will keep you all posted. Ok must away. I work in a School Wear shop and we have 63 schools to look after. Its chaos at times. Bye everyone

Oh thats brilliant, I am pleased. I also gave the pub addy as it may be a postcard on the board next to the bar may attract some of the older punters who may have known your family and there would be a lot of conversation about it which could help. But see how the first two ideas go first. Do let us know if you hear anything.

Heather Hi, I just popped in briefly to check my emails as I might be on over time for tonight. Sue from the Old Walsoken post office was so nice and told me she used to live across the road from no. 57. I mentioned about writing a letter to no 57 but Sue informed me so many young ones are coming and going around the area they may rip the letter up. Still one step at a time. Did you mean that you Have posted a message up at the pub for me ?Only I have made two coppies for Sue 1 for the Post Office and another for the pub. Maybe Heather you might be able to help me with another family member. Give me some good advice. My Great Grandmother Caroline Elizabeth McClelland was born in the year 1861/62. Her birth records the area as Ilsey. Her Father Robert McClelland born about 1830 Ireland was a Sergeant in the Royal Artillery Aldershot. I along with other family members who I have found through Genes are also on the same search as I. When Robert remarried in 1865 Feb it shows him to be widowed. His new brides name was Ellen Carr. This would be Carolines Step Mother. The other two family members and myself have contacted so many places with this one coming up with nothing. Can you tell me if the Army would have sent their children to a school perhaps in The Army Village and not with other children from the Aldershot area such as a Public School? I believe Carolines Mother is a Harriett Ackley but until I can get hold of Carolines Birth Cert I will never know. Its so hard to track her down. There was also a younger sister Harriett born about 1864. This one search has driven the three of us barmy. Can you give any suggestions on this one please Heather. Regards Marion

Hi, Marion, you should start a new thread on this new topic. I am a relative newbie anyway, and you could get some real super sleuths on to this if you start a thread which attracts them. I am just about to go out, but scanning your message, what do you actually want to find - Carolines birth reference? Where was she born, dont recognise that one? Have you tried freebmd and the ancestry beta index for her birth ref? I havent written to the pub, noticed you didnt mention it and just thought it would be a good idea as a lot of the older people may meet up there still. I was just wondering the best way for them to contact you??

Hi Heather, I,m back on for a little while but have my phone turned up high in case I have to go into work. Drats. Ok I will post two coppies for sue one for the Post Office the other for the Bell Pub. I have posted a new thread as you suggested re Millitary. I wanted to know my Great Grandmothers Mothers name (Great Great Grandmother) so I can try to get a Birth Cert for Caroline. I hope I have explained myself correctly? I have found Robert McClelland,Ellen Carr,Caroline and Harriet on a few of the census. 1871 Robert born 1830 aged about 41 Sergeant Ireland head Caroline E abt 1862 Ilsey Daughter Plumstead Hampshire, Ellen McClelland abt 1831 Oxforshire wife (later married William Whitehead Royal Artillery) Harriett abt 1864 Aldershot. Heather I am very new to all of this searching and although I started in August of last year due to my work it can be ages before I get back on with the searching. Have a nice day Heather. Thanks for all your great help. Regards Marion
