I have just ordered some birth certificates and the arrival date is 24th Feb!!!! Does anyone know why I have to wait 11 days?they usually arrive 3or 4 days later.

Apparently you can blame the new series of 'Who Do You Think You Are'. A lot of people get interested in family history and order certificates which causes a backlog at the GRO. Joy

They usually give a date that far in advance but sometimes they turn up more quickly. Think yourself lucky there was a time last year when the wait was 8-10 weeks Paula

I suppose if I really wanted them quickly I could pay the £28 for each one.I don't think my husband would allow that and just to wait a while isn't so bad when you know the reason.I have saved the money and now have ordered them and I suppose I am being impatient.I didn't realise that the programme on the BBc would have such an effect.Thankyou for your comments.

Hannah - I ordered one yesterday and it's due for dispatch on the 23rd. It's partially dur to WDYTYA and partially due to ancestry makeing the BMD's free. Last year it was takeing over 2 months to get certificates dispatched because of the influcs after WDYTYA. Just ride it out, things will be back to normal soon.

I am desperately waiting for one to arrive that i ordered last weekend, despatch date today, hoping it will arrive tomorrow. I have reached a stage now where I need so many certificates to confirm my research that I could screammmmmm having to wait!! I'm more excited about the postman coming tomorrow with my certificate than the sack loads of cards that I should be getting!!

I feel sorry for postmen all over the country probably daily faced with eager faces waiting for their certs! I ordered one last week, told 9 days til despatch. Today told 11 days - oh dear, its rising. I dont think I can stand the 7 weeks I had waiting last year.

I go to my local studie library every saturday and it is more empty now than at any time in the last 3 years i dont thing the tv program has had any impact this time around i would say its more like people already into research finding more certs to send for off the bmd indexs and also people rushing to order certs because of the percived impact of the tv programe and they have created there own back log not the tv programe

I got a certificate through the post on Saturday that the accompanying paperwork claimed was being sent today! They're sending them out in dribs and drabs if you've ordered more than one. Frustrating! Even more frustrating, though, is that I don't currently need any certificates to break through any brick walls, but I have this craving to order some!!

I'm still aiting on a batch that was due for dispatch on Wed. 1 arrived Thurs, 3 Friday and have 2 missing - and I need one of the missing ones to progress (birth 1903)
