My grandad was born in Ramsgate Kent at 22 Winstanley Road on 21/1/1898 his name was Frederick Henry Champs[i have his birth cert,his father was Frederick Charles William Champs born 1876 in Margate Kent married to Lottie Harman 1877,where do i go from here,no living relative can give me the answer

have to go out now....for other children after 1901 it isn't easy. you could order certs for those born in the same place after 1901 and specify the parents names. Once you get to 1911 the mum's maiden surname is on the indexes which helps a good deal! Fred's mum's maiden name is Harmen. As Merry says, it is difficult to find out about any brothers and sisters born between 1901 and 1911. If you can get your grandfather's marriage certificate, it is possible that a brother or sister was a witness at his wedding. Kate.

Well Gary, you must have some idea - you have 239 people on your GR tree since 2004 which isnt bad going!

As I said before, mother's maiden name come on to the index in Q3 1911. There is only one birth after then with mum's name Harman, up to 1920. That's this one: 1913 Q2 Champs, Gertrude E, Harman, Thanet, 2a, 2093 Merry
