Is there any way of searching for a marriage the old way i.e Name approx year qtr if known I rather liked this way of doing it as it would pull up + or - 10 years all the right names/districts and gave you an idea where/when to look. It seems a bit of a trawl to do through each qtr of every year when you are just browsing a few children of a relation. I can't seem to find any way to do it the old way? Is it just me needing better specs? Yvonne

Up to 1910 and after 1983 there is, but if you're looking between, you have to trawl.

It is before 1910

In that case you can search ''England & Wales, FreeBMD Index: 1837-1983'' on Ancestry or FreeBMD - although they are not complete Sam

Just use freebmd or dreebmd's records on ancestry. FreeBMD is more comprehensive than the copy ancestry has. the alternative is to pay on other sites (Family relatives have full transcriptions of 1866 to 1920) http://www.ancestry.*co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=5963 http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl https://www.familyrelatives.org/ (remove * )
