Can anyone out there tell me how to find out the name of an army regiment which was stationed at Orford Barracks, Warrington in 1904? I know it was a Liverpool regiment, but do not know which one. Any tips which would aid my research would be much appriciated. |

Did your soldier serve in WW1? If so you could go to the National archives and see if his medal card is available for downloading for £3.50. Meanwhile, just a google search found this: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Read the heading of your topic, not sure if you require this info but here goes: The name of the barracks is 'Peninsula Barracks' and was the headquarters of the 'South Lancashire Regiment' also known as the 'Prince of Wales Volunteers' although the regiment is no longer in existence The Regimental Museum is still there and I believe open to the public. It has a connection with Merseyside as the 10th reserve battalion was formed at Crosby in 1914. You will obtain much more info from <www.1914-1918net/southlancs.htm> Hope that is not to much information!. |
