I have been trying to trace my g grandmothers life for some time now. Her name birth name was Rowena Rancombe and she was born 1897 in Bedwelty, Wales, I have also found her and parents on the 1901 census. In 1918 she married Charles Pocock and had 3 children, one born 1919, another 1923, and also 1925. The eldest of these children is my grandfather. I also know that she placed my grandfather in to my gg grandmothers care and the other two in to a childrens home. Apparently my grandfather was a teenager when all this happened. Unfortunately I do not know why. However, what i am really interested in is where she went from her. I have search bdm from 1920 - 1951 for marriages in both the name Rancombe and Pocock and I can find nothing. I have also looked for death record from 1920 - till 1975 in both names and again I have found nothing! Has anyone any ideas? perhaps she left the country, does anyone know where was popular at this point in history? This really is driving me quite mad!

I think this could be one of those things you may never find out. She could have married more than once (after 1951) and therefore you won't find a death as it would be in another name. She could even have moved abroad. Or she could have changed her name maybe. Sam x

Hi Merry, What a fantastic but abstract way to look for things, never thought to look just under her first name... All my other rellies are quite straight forward compared to this one! In answer to you question, no, I have a marriage cert and her birth index for 1897 in the oct, nov, dec quarter.

Those deaths are 1984-2001, so if she didn't live that long or left the country then you may be stuck again.....but it might be worth getting her birth cert.......... Merry

Certainly worth a thought. I have also heard that she was a lively one (if you know what i mean). On the abroad note, does anyone know where the popular destination was in the 1925 ish period?

America ? I have a grandfather that went there in 1930, left his wife behind with 4 children and never came back or sent anything back for his family, after 7 years grannie had him presumed dead!!!!! Ann
